Zinc Selenide is a chemically vapor deposited material commonly used in thermal imaging, FLIR, and medical systems. It has wide usage in high power CO2 laser systems because of its low absorption coefficient and high resistance to thermal shock. Zinc Selenide is a relatively soft material that scratches easily and it is not recommended for use in harsh environments (Knoop Hardness 120). Great care must be taken during handling, mounting, and cleaning. Apply uniform pressure when handling, wear Latex finger cots or gloves to prevent contamination and do not use tweezers or other tools.
Note: Special care should be taken when handling Zinc Selenide as it is a toxic material. Always wear rubber or plastic gloves to avoid risk of contamination.
