Position: Vision Solutions Engineer
Department: IBU
Reports To: Manager of Sales Operations, Imaging Business Unit
Classification: Exempt

Brief Summary:

Proactively sells the organization's standard and custom machine vision and imaging products by interacting with established customers & developing new prospects. Applies a broad knowledge of the organization's services, products and marketing techniques to close sales and capture market share. Activities are primarily carried out within a defined territory, region or area.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops and owns relationship with key, regional Smart Camera/System manufactures
  • Identifies new opportunities in factory automation and industrial imaging, ie Vision Guided Robotics
  • Provides onsite training for specific customers and organizations
  • Visits existing and potential customers to address customer needs, identify requirements & key contacts, deliver sales presentations and develop business relationships
  • Interacts and co-ordinates activities with Regional Sales Managers, Solution Engineers, EO Account Reps, OEM Sales Reps, Product Development, Product Line Management & Engineering
  • Develops customer relationships with key decision makers in engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance and purchasing
  • Maintain and develop the in region Vision Integration Partners program
  • Prepare pricing and maintain marketing details for VIP program
  • Proactively work with select Machine Vision Partner Vendors to co-develop leads and OEM opportunities
  • Penetrate and maintain channels to market for Machine Vision Optics beyond the catalog
  • Identifies and explores leads from various sources via phone and in person
  • Continuously follows up on leads and customer contact to develop projects, custom/stock quotes, close sales and capture market share
  • Contributes and distributes OEM marketing data from information gathered from lead exploration and customer development
  • Participates in regularly scheduled sales meetings
  • Prepares reports on all customer contacts
  • Tradeshow participation and attendance
  • Travel 10-15%
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Previous experience and advanced sales skills, strong presentation skills are desirable
  • Machine Vision/Automation is required, Optics and optical industry knowledge is desirable
  • Computer skills; PC literacy in Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Outlook
  • Excellent phone and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to interact with customers. Strong networking and relationship building skills are a must
  • Professional demeanor
  • Excellent phone etiquette
  • Proficient in Active Listening
  • Must use Critical Thinking/Deductive Reasoning
  • Ability to service customers with catalog products
  • Ability to provide technical support for EO products, specifically Machine Vision and Imaging related
  • Must work Independently
  • Must have a high stress tolerance
  • Requires minimal supervision and direction
  • Other requirements as determined by management


Bachelors preferred in Engineering, Physics or related or equivalent technical work – related experience. Five to ten years+ of work related to Machine Vision/Imaging or Factory Automation experience required. Successful sales and strong customer service skill, knowledge, or experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time; ability to travel; work in office setting.
