A uniform light source can be used to test and calibrate a variety of systems and system components. Many irradiance applications, such as characterizing the responsivity, linearity, photo response non-uniformity, and dynamic range of focal-plane arrays, can be solved with a uniform source. Targets for testing system MTF and sensitometric properties can be illuminated evenly by a sphere source. Radiance measurements such as cosine4 irradiance falloff in an image can be measured, along with other variations in irradiance due to optical aberrations.
The 4" Uniform Source System has one 1.5" port and two 1" ports, and the 6" Uniform Source System has one 2.5" port and two 1" ports. Each system includes four port reducers of different sizes to allow the user to customize the system, and a port frame reducer to allow the addition of a 0.5" detector. A 1/4-20 TPI mounting hole allows easy mechanical integration. Two light sources are available; a 10W, Tungsten Halogen lamp, which mounts internally and comes with a pre-set universal power supply to provide constant, maximum output or a 30W external lamp that includes a universal power supply and manually operated, variable attenuator to control the supply. Power supply is 8.3" W x 10.5" D x 3.5" H and weighs 6.5 lbs.
