Aspheric lenses are known for providing simple, single-element solutions for managing laser light. LightPath® has perfected a glass molding technology that produces aspheric lenses with consistent quality and at practical prices for system designers. Aspherics, which can be made in a large variety of Numerical Apertures (NA), can eliminate spherical aberrations and improve focusing and collimating accuracy. A low NA is ideal for maintaining beam shape, as in barcode scanning, where a nearly circular beam is critical. High NA lenses gather all available energy when long beam paths are required, such as in sighting systems. Molded aspheric lenses are used in a wide variety of photonic products including bar code scanners, laser diode-to-fiber couplings, optical data storage, and medical lasers.
