What are focus-tunable lenses?
Focus-Tunable Lenses are available in both manual and electrical options. Manually Focus-Tunable Lenses are lenses where the user can manipulate the focal length and change the shape from convex to concave by rotating the outer ring. Electrically Focus-Tunable Lenses are convex lenses with variable focal lengths.
Why are focus-tunable lenses innovative?
Manually Focus-Tunable Lenses allow the user to change the shape from convex to concave by offering a focal tuning range of -80mm to infinity to +80 mm. Electrically Focus-Tunable Lenses offer a single-lens solution for focus and zoom objectives. Applying a control voltage to each compact, plano-convex lens changes their radius. Electrical manipulation of the radius allows for a focal range of +45 to +120mm.
In what applications are focus-tunable lenses used?
Focus-Tunable Lenses are great for researchers and OEMs alike; they offer continuous focusability over a specific focal range, allowing the user to custom-tune the lenses for optimum performance. Manually Focus-Tunable Lenses are ideal for education and research applications in addition to lighting systems where the option to adjust the focal length allows for expanded focal control of the light source. Electrically Focus-Tunable Lenses provide an adjustable focal length for a variety of purposes and negating the need for a multi-lens system.
