These extended light sources are valuable in applications that require diffuse illumination. Diffusing a small light source with opal or ground glass effectively increases the area of the source, but decreases the energy density and area of illumination. Stand-alone linear sources provide bright, even lighting to large areas effectively. The high frequency (25kHz) and color temperature of these fluorescents facilitate color and monochrome video inspection and machine vision setups. Some common applications include area matching, such as matching parts to containers; edge detection, as compared to collimated backlighting and area backlighting; and go/no-go counting operations. 11 inch 6 Watt red, green, and blue replacement lamps also available.
