June 20, 2012, Barrington, NJ USA — Edmund Optics® (EO), the premier provider of optical components, announced today that it will be investing more resources in its global coating operations in an effort to deliver more optics and more technology to its customers. Additional staff and new equipment will continue to be added to Edmund Optics’ new Singapore plant as well as its growing manufacturing facility in Akita, Japan, which recently added a second shift to the coating line-up.
“In addition to these improvements, we will be focusing our Pennsburg, PA manufacturing staff exclusively on coating technology and the advancement of our aspheric manufacturing operation. By allowing the Pennsburg plant to leverage its strengths, we can unleash its true potential – on-going innovative coating technology development for our customers,” said Samuel Sadoulet, EVP of Engineering and Manufacturing. The Pennsburg facility will be making changes over the next several months to support customer demands by seamlessly transitioning non-coating operations, such as assembly, to its facility in southern New Jersey and volume aspheric production to its new state-of-the-art Singapore plant.
“The EO staff at Pennsburg is ready to deliver broadband and V-Coat AR, notch filters, precision bandpass filters, and non-polarizing beamsplitters, as well as other specialty designs like ITO conductive and laser coatings to its customers,” noted Corporate Director, Optical Coatings, Iain MacMillan. In addition, the EO Pennsburg facility will continue to bolster and expand its extensive metrology and quality assurance systems with added emphasis on coating and aspheric technology. The recent procurement of an IR spectrophotometer and aspheric lens measurement equipment is a testament to EO’s dedication to investing in the latest technology. “Our ability to test and ensure consistency in quality is a key differentiator for our customer. This requires continuous investment in metrology and unwavering attention to training and development” stated Robert Henderson, Quality Assurance Manager at the EO Pennsburg plant.
